The Quarterly Meeting was held on Saturday January 24th 2015 at FRENIERE LANDING, LaPlace, LA. where we’ve met three other times. It was a great weather day, clear, sunny, mild and with a terffic view of Lake Pontchartrain. The meeting opened at 1130 hours with a Pledge of Allegiance and the invocation by Chaplain WILLIE STEVENS. As usual a short business meeting was held including; approving the minutes of previous meeting, treasurer’s report, and our Mardi Gras program (see below).
Guest Speaker was Burleigh Soape, Sr, Commander of DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS, Chapter 50 Florida Parishes, Hammond, LA. He spoke about their programs to assist local disabled veterans. He also related a few stories of individuals receiving secial assistance.
BOB MOREAU reported on our Annual Program HELP HOST A HERO FOR MARDI GRAS 2015 where we have twenty Combat Veterans of the middle east conflicts ride in the parade. (see our website www.sfa30.org click on the Mardi Gras link). Public donations are going well with most prior years contributers renewing, new donors contacted with some donating. We’re also spreading our program via facebook & twitter. See facebook page SPECIAL FORCES ASSOCIATION CHAPTER 30, with its posting being Shared by some Chapter XXX Members, thereby increasing our exposure.
JON CAVAIANI was laid to rest on November 5th 2014 and is deeply missed by our Chapter
Members, several who knew him well. Chapter members at Arlington were TED ELLISON & LLOYD STOUT. JON was our Guest of Honor from 2008 to 2013 for six days each year, riding in our MARDI GRAS PARADE and attending other related functions. On our Mardi Gras Brochure we included A SPECIAL TRIBUTE to JON, see photo this article, also see the brochure on our website.
It’s with great sadness we acknowledge the passing of member B.ETHEL E. GAINEY on December 14, 2014. ED was one of the original Chapter members who attended virtually every meeting and frequently attended the SFA conventions.
An update was given on member HENRY J. COOK III who had a complete liver transplant in October 2013 and has been in the hospital virtually ever since. He is currently in Franklin Memorial Bed Unit, 40 Union Church Road, Meadville, MS 31653 where his doctors feel the treatment here will improve his condition.
