We held our quarterly meeting on Saturday, July
28th 2012 at a new location; FOUR POINTS BY SHERATON. It’s at the
Interstate 10 overpass of Veterans Memorial Blvd in Metairie, LA. that
was easy for our “out of town guys” to locate. The meeting was in one of
their banquet rooms where they set up a portable bar to accommodate our
members and guests (everybody Loved That). People began arriving around
1030 hrs with most present by 1100 hrs and we all had a great time
“catching up” and visiting with old friends. At noon the meal was ready
to be served so President RUSS COPPING asked CHAPLAIN WILLIE STEVENS to
give the invocation, then we all joined in for the Pledge of Allegiance.
The lunch was really good whether it was the grilled chicken breast or
the beef brisket served with the usual accompaniments.
After lunch the business meeting was called to order with RUSS
introducing our visitors, guests and those members returning after
missing the last few meetings. First was BILLY & JOYCE BEAN visiting
from another Chapter, they were a real pleasure to have with us. Billy
asked to transfer his membership to our chapter which we were to do.
Next were Chapter LXXXI’s President JOHN ARCENEAUX & VP BOBBY MARTIN
from Breaux Bridge, LA. who updated us on their ongoing projects – see
their article in THE DROP for details. Then four members were “Welcomed
Back”, GODFREY & KATHLEEN BOUDREAUX, RICHARD KUNTZ, BOB NISSLEY and ART
ZIESKE. Next followed the usual; minutes of previous meeting,
treasurer’s report on our cash in bank and 2011 Financial Statement
(available for members who may want to examine them), a very favorable
memo on our Mardi Gras Parade issued by the Krewe of Argus and other
matters. The President mentioned the site for our next meeting 27
October 2012 in the Baton Rouge, LA area was open for discussion. WILLIE
STEVENS & TOM TUBESING volunteered to select a location and report back
to the President. WEST SUMMERS informed us the 2/20th SFG(A) MS NG will
dedicate their DZ for his son SEVERIN SUMMERS III (KIA 02Aug2009 in
Afghanistan). The dedication ceremony will be at Camp Grenada, MS on
08Sep2012, details are on Facebook [www.facebook.com], just type in the
search box “SEV SUMMERS” for links on information.
A few of our members are in the US Army Special Forces ODA – XXX / LXXXI
Motorcycle Club. They had presented Chapter XXX with a Certificate of
Appreciation for our contribution to their LT DOUGLAS FOURNET (CMOH
Recipient) MEMORIAL SHOOT & SCOOT POKER RUN in Lake Charles, LA on
Saturday 07 JULY 2012. This event raised a substantial amount of money
for the planned memorial statue to be erected in the near future.
