A MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION was attended
by some of our members on Wednesday May 24th, 2017 at VETERANS PARK in
Kenner LA. It was hosted by the town Mayor, also attending was the City
Council, Police Chief, several local officials, many Veterans and other
People. It was a very nice affair with the Colors presented by local
Marine Corps League and patriotic music by the USMCR BAND. Three local
distinguished Veterans made speeches then a wreath of flowers was placed
at the plaque listing local veterans killed in action (see photos)

silence for all fallen warriors and our members with health issues. Then
the usual business matters. TED ELLISON commented on the SFA Conference.
BOB ROMERO and TOM FIERKE announced the winner of the raffle for the SF
Decanter of Jack Daniels. TONY RIDDLE introduced his guest SERENA

been seeking to learn more about what SF is all about.
The Guest Speaker was JOEY STRICKLAND, SECRETARY OF LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT
OF VETERANS AFFAIRS. His talk was very informative and interesting on

Our newest member is JOSH BURNS who
is/was heralded as a local Hero. In the tradition of the Special Forces
he performed a HEROIC ACTION rescuing a mother and child from a truck
that was partially submerged. He was travelling south on I-55 toward New
Orleans when coming upon a vehicle accident where a truck was forced
over the guard rail into the water with the woman and toddler inside.
Josh got in the water, smashed the window and helped them out. The story
was on WWL TV as well as both local newspapers.
JOSH served in the
7th SFGA and currently in the MS NG 20th SFGA. His lovely wife is an
active USAF Reservist. A true life Military Family. He’s self-employed
