On The Chapter Meeting for the second quarter
was held on Saturday April 23rd 2016 at Drusillaís Seafood Restaurant in
Baton Rouge, LA. From 1030-1430 hours. Our guest speaker was SGT TERRY
HICKS of the East Baton Rouge LA Department of Wildlife & Fisheries
Enforcement Division. Their scope of operation protects wildlife habitat
and apprehends any illegal hunters or fishermen. It utilizes biologists
to maintain optimal levels of the various wildlife species. SGT Hicks
explained their activities in an easily understandable manner, often
injecting it with some humorous & actual examples. The members
thoroughly enjoyed his presentation also the manner he answered the many
questions that were asked.
The business portion
of the meeting included the usual items; minutes of the previous
meeting, treasurerís report, status of Annual Members renewals (good)
and Sick Call. It was reported that member OWEN WALL had been
hospitalized a few months back but is much better now. A new member LUKE
SIMON was introduced and gave a short briefing of his life and military
The Chapterís property was inventoried
in February by TED ELLISON (QM) and BOB MOREAU (Treasurer) revealing
just a few shortages on two items. However, our supply of the three
types of shirts [Tees, Sweats & Polo] is rather large (about 40 items of
each type) and needs to be reduced. Sales have been slow the past couple
years and a recommendation was made to reduce the prices to a couple
dollarís over our cost. See Photo for details. This action was approved.
The sale of raffle tickets for Chapter 88ís SIG M400 AR RIFLE is doing
very well. Of the Thirty tickets we received only a few are left. TOM
FIERKE sold Ten and is waiting for Chp 88 to mail him ten more for
buyers heís lined up.
On March 29 2016 a ceremony
was held on the VIETNAM WAR COMMEMORATION
in American Legion Post
175, Metairie, LA. It was held by the local VETERANS ADMINISTRATION and
included presenting eligible veterans a VIETNAM VETERAN LAPEL PIN. For
those who many not know, the US Dept. of Defense established this
program in 2013 and solicited all veteranís organizations to register as
Commemorative Partners. (Chapter XXX is registered as a partner). A
large number of veterans attended including a few from this chapter.
It was mentioned in the previous DROP article about our annual hosting
of combat veterans in a MARID GRAS PARADE (check our website
www.sfa30.org and click on the Mardi Gras Link). A couple more pictures
are shown below to give a little more perspective on the parade.
