Our quarterly meeting began 1100 hours Saturday April 29th 2017 in Walker, Louisiana at the Livingston Parish Sheriffís Firing Range. This is our second time at this facility, enjoying a terrific day out in the open and firing various weapons (again). President TOM FIERKE led us in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by; an opening prayer and moment of silence for all the fallen brothers, as well as those members currently too ill to attend. He then brought up the topic of our current Secretary being unable to continue the duties. Therefore, he called for a vote to appoint MANNY ACOSTA as Acting Secretary until the forthcoming election cycle of Chapter Officers in October Ė December this year. It was voted and approved.
The Treasurer was called upon to give his report on our cash balance and had
our bank statements on hand. He also reported on our Financial Statement for 2017, offering to let the members look them over and ask questions.
President TOM FIERKE mentioned the SFA International Conference is being held June 12-17, 2017 with details in the current issue of THE DROP. BOB MOREAU gave a report on the recent Chapter XXX MARDI GRAS event. The Chapterís float (donated to us in 2005) was repainted and a few changes made to the images and symbols. This year the parade once again was on MARDI GRAS DAY, February 28th, 2017 in Metairie, LA. [see photos] We invite twenty (20) Combat Veterans of the Mid-East Conflicts (all branches of service are eligible) to ride. The Chapter publishes an annual brochure to help raise the money through generous donations from Patriotic Corporations and individuals to finance the parade. [check our website] MARDI GRAS is a lot of fun but it isnít free and isnít cheap. In addition to the parade many of the local veterans (called HONOREES) attended the MARDI GRAS KREWE OF ARGUSíS GALAXY BALL on Feb 3rd, 2017 [see photo]. This is a formal event with tuxedos for men and long evening gowns for the ladies, open bar and free food from several local restaurants, with music and the pageantry of the Argus Royal Court.
The meeting was adjourned with the members going to the firing ranges. [see photo]. Supervised by deputies; Paul Brignac, Hayden Brown, Jamie Brown, and Stacy Dufor.
Those Members with guestís present were; Godfrey & Kathleen Boudreaux, Frank & son Kevin Brumley, Ted Ellison, Tom Fierke, Bruce Little, Bob & Judi Moreau, Lester Poirrier, Lloyd & Luzstella Stout, Art Zieske. GUESTS; Brad Hayes, Harvey Harrison, Ray Pendleton & Sandy Bauer, Steve Roper
