The quarterly meeting was on October 27th 2012 at DRUSILLA’S SEAFOOD RESTAURANT in Baton Rouge, LA from 1030 to 1500 hours. There were several members & spouses today who didn’t make the last couple meetings and it was really great to see them again. They were; John & Angelique, Earl & JoAnn, Ron, Ben, Art (“Z Man”) also Lee & Ruby. Quarter Master Ted Ellison had all our Chapter Shirts “On Sale” at reduced prices and making a few “deals” for three or more items.
President Russ Copping had to interrupt all the “catching up” to start the meeting. Chaplain Willie Stevens gave the invocation; we all recited the Pledge of Allegiance then the meeting began. (Lunch was individual orders from a selected menu) A number of items was discussed with the main ones being; A) the REGIONAL MILITARY MUSEUM in Houma, LA requested a speaker for their November meeting and Henry Cook was the obvious choice (he later agreed and will do it) B) we passed the Beret for donations toward a wreath for our SF brother, Maxwell Swinger (the Chapter also made a donation) C) John Whidden spoke about a few events coming up this summer in the Washington, DC area saying anyone interested to see him D) Jim McCurry informed us that you can have your Veteran Status placed on your LA Driver’s License at the LA DMV, just bring your DD214 or other documentation. E) Ernest Bryant is Chairman for May 2013 Memorial Day and will soon issue the details F) Lloyd Stout and Bob Moreau gave an update on our Annual Mardi Gras Parade, working on obtaining Donations and Honorees to ride. G) It was suggested our JAN 2013 meeting site be at Cris Mandry’s Boathouse in New Orleans, Bob later contacted him and it’s all set. A few other usual and minor matters were discussed.
Attendance was; 23 Members, 11 Spouses and 1 Grandson – JADEN MILLER. Jim & Mitzi, Billy & Joyce, Gretchen, Ernest, Russ & Susan, Ted, Ed, Morty, John & Angelique, Earl & Joann, Jim & Kathy, Ron, Bob & Judi, Lester, Ben, Willie & Vita, Lloyd, West, Tom, Jack & Joann, Owen, Art, Lee & Ruby also John W.
A few members participated in local Veterans Day Parades on November 10th. In New Orleans it was The LOUISIANA BICENTENNIAL MILITARY PARADE with over 1,000 Marchers. Each branch of service; Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard had 200 Marchers, with 20 different Veterans Organizations riding on military vehicles. Members Ernest Bryant, Tom Fierke and Bob Moreau participated. On the Mississippi Gulf Coast there was also a big military parade with Henry Cook as Grand Marshall.
